The Bedford Bible Institute was founded in June, 1995 as a ministry of biblical education and evangelism. The purpose of the Bedford Bible Institute is to provide resources whereby believers can study the Bible at their own pace and to provide outreach to persons interested in learning more about the Christian faith. This is an informal educational program, not meant to replace academic studies, designed primarily for the believer (lay or clergy) who wants to increase his or her own knowledge and understanding of the Bible.

Over 70 courses are provided to be taken by correspondence. In these courses, students read their Bibles to answer questions about a book of the Bible or an important biblical topic, such as personal evangelism or the Christian family. Students go at their own pace, with no pressure or deadlines imposed on them. It is recommended that students begin with the Introductory Study, as it covers the basics of salvation. This study is a shorter course than the others, and helps the student familiarize himself or herself with the learning approach used in all the correspondence courses. It also serves as an excellent tool for evangelism for people asking questions about God, the Bible, salvation, etc.

In addition to the correspondence courses, seminars and classes are offered from time to time at the church, including "Introduction to Biblical Greek," "Becoming a Contagious Christian," and others. All courses and classes are offered at no cost, although donations are greatly appreciated to help defray the costs for the church. Our cost is approximately $2.00 per correspondence course, plus any postage needed for shipping.

The Bedford Bible Institute offers two levels of certificates. The first is offered upon completion of the 20 basic studies, and is called the "Christian Worker" certificate. A second certificate is offered to those who complete the entire course of studies, and is called the "Bedford Bible Institute Certificate of Completion." Those who have achieved the distinction of completing the entire course of studies can have the satisfaction of knowing they will have read and studied every chapter of the entire Bible.

One exciting ministry of the Bedford Bible Institute is the outreach to prisons. We currently have students in 31 prisons, mostly in Virginia. The Bible Institute also has conducted worship services and Bible studies in prisons. We are grateful for the occasional donations that are made to help offset the high cost of this part of the ministry.
