GIVE GOD A CHANCE
Several years ago there was a supper at my church where it was announced ahead of time that some bear meat would be served. So the people who came were curious about how that would taste. However, the person who prepared the meal cooked the bear meat with some noodles, and placed some beef just sliced up plain on a plate. The people at the supper figured that the sliced meat was the bear meat, so the beef hardly got touched at all, while everybody really helped themselves to the noodles, and came back for seconds, commenting on how good it was. They were quite surprised to find out at the end of the meal that they’d been eating bear meat all along. They had thought it would taste terrible, and yet there they’d been enjoying it and having seconds.
That reminds me of the way some people treat God. They have the impression that God is some terrible kind of being, but if they’d just give God a chance, they’d find out how good He really is. Psalm 34:8 says, "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!" That’s saying to us, "Come on, give God a chance, and you’ll find out He’s really good, not bad!"
God is the source of every good thing we’ve ever had in our lives. The Scripture says in James 1:17, "Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." God is good, and He does good things for us. So come on, give God a chance. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
