WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?
I have heard that during the Civil War, someone asked President Lincoln, "Are you concerned about which side God is on during this war?" Abraham Lincoln answered something like this: "I’m not concerned about what side God is on, but I am concerned that we be on God’s side."
That’s an answer that’s good for us to consider today. We don’t need to be preoccupied with the question of whose side God is on, because the answer to that is clear in Scripture. God is on our side – He’s for human beings, and has clearly shown that in sending His Son Jesus Christ for our forgiveness and salvation. But the question does remain for each of us to answer, Whose side am I on? Am I on God’s side?
One time in the Old Testament we read of this question being asked of people. It happened when Moses came down from the mountain with the ten commandments in his hands. When he got to the Israelite camp, he saw that they had rebelled against God. So he stood up and said, "Whoever is on the Lord’s side, let him come to me." (Ex. 32:26) The people then had to decide whose side they wanted to be on. We have to make that choice, too. Let’s choose, like Lincoln did, to seek to be on God’s side.
